Today the Moscow city court made the decision.
Igor Strelkov (Girkin), former leader of the "DPR" terrorists and ex-FSB saboteur, has been sentenced to four years in a general regime colony.
"I serve my fatherland," was Strelkov's reaction to the verdict.
The Moscow City Court found former "DPR" defence minister Igor Strelkov (Girkin) guilty in the case of calling for extremist activity via the Internet (part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code).
Strelkov was detained in July 2023. He was charged under part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code ("Public calls to extremism using the Internet").
Strelkov's two publications on his Telegram channel became the grounds for the case: in the first post he admitted the possible handover of Crimea, and also commented on the non-payments to the military with the phrase "Citizens, to execute for that is not enough".
Later, Strelkov's lawyer clarified that the expert examination recognised only one post as extremist, which was the basis for the final charge. The accused himself refused to admit guilt.
In November 2022, the court in The Hague recognised Strelkov as one of the perpetrators of the crash of the Malaysian Boeing 777 in Donetsk region in the summer of 2014. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in absentia.
