Natallia Radzina: Another Outrage Of Regime Will Cause More Hatred

The authorities have fundamentally miscalculated.

Since Tuesday morning, law enforcers have been coming all over the country to some ex-political prisoners remaining in Belarus, as well as to relatives of prisoners of conscience.

The wife of the Belarusian opposition leader, political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, Maryna Adamovich, has been detained. She is being kept in the Zavadski district police department.

Natallia Radzina, editor-in-chief of Charter97.org, reacted to the series of detentions in Belarus on Facebook:

- Maryna Adamovich was detained only because she was seeking information about the fate of her husband. For almost 11 months, the authorities have been hiding the condition and whereabouts of Belarusian opposition leader Mikalai Statkevich. Maryna was constantly writing enquiries, complaints and making visits at the colony in Hlubokaye and Department of Corrections, asking for a visit or a phone call from her husband. In retaliation, the authorities decided to arrest her as well.

Today's searches and detentions of relatives of political prisoners are another attempt to intimidate all the dissatisfied. It is clear that the families of political prisoners cannot love this government. But the calculation is fundamentally wrong. Another outrage will cause even greater hatred and, I hope, a reaction in the West.
