According to the sources of Charter97.org, the wife of Belarusian opposition leader, political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, Maryna Adamovich, has been detained. She is kept in the Zavadski district police department.
The Telegram channel of the Human Rights Centre "Viasna" reports that the searches are taking place across the country. Some of those, who were visited by law enforcers, were detained, others were searched and released. According to human rights activists, as of the evening of January 23, the searches were still ongoing.
Before that it was reported about the detention of 76-year-old well-known Vitsebsk activist Barys Khamaida. It is also unknown under what case he was detained.
One of the Zerkala sources said that among those who were visited by uninvited guests yesterday were the people who were members of one of the closed chat rooms, where relatives of political prisoners and ex-political prisoners discussed domestic issues. According to him, they were particularly interested in those who were writing in the chat room about BYSOL assistance.
Human rights activists report that the law enforcers' resolutions include articles for "financing" and "participation in extremist groups".
Probably, yesterday's round-up is connected with the situation around the INeedHelpBY project, which was helping victims of political repressions with food. On January 16, the KGB recognised the initiative as an extremist formation.
According to human rights activists, some of the detainees were told by law enforcers that they came to them because they had received help from INeedHelpBY. One of the sources told Zerkalo about the same situation. According to his data, one of the families that was subjected to the round-up yesterday had received groceries with the help of this initiative many months ago.
