Against the backdrop of increased Russian airstrikes in Ukraine.
The head of the Bundestag's Defence Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, once again called on the German government to approve the supply of the Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, Deutsche Welle reports on Tuesday, January 2.
Strack-Zimmerman spoke with a corresponding appeal due to increased Russian airstrikes in Ukraine.
"Ukraine needs more ammunition, more spare parts, and we start supplying the Taurus immediately to finally complicate Russian logistics," the politician said.
According to her, Germany's commitment to support Ukraine as much as necessary "will become an empty shell" if Germany and its allies do not continue to support Ukraine "much stronger." This also applies to the European coalition for the supply of F-16 fighter jets, which should "gain speed much faster," said the head of the Bundestag Defence Committee.
The Greens and CDU/CSU support the supply of missiles
Sara Nanni, a member of the Bundestag Defence Committee from the Alliance 90/The Greens party, stressed that German support for Ukraine faced planning problems due to "tense budget debates." Ukraine is in dire need of ammunition for artillery, Taurus missiles and spare parts for heavy weapons, Nanni said.
The CDU/CSU bloc also intends to renew its demands for the supply of longer-range missiles to Ukraine. The CDU/CSU intend to adopt a list of the bloc's requirements, including an increase in military assistance to Kyiv, at its congress in early January.
