Baranavichy Resident Sentenced To 2.5 Years In Jail For ‘Insulting’ Lukashenka And Officials

The trial of the political prisoner lasted several days.

On August 14, in the court of the Baranavichy district and the city of Baranavichy, a local resident, Siarhei Adaska, was sentenced, who was accused under a number of protest articles. The trial, which lasted several days, was led by Judge Artsiom Padalyanets, human rights activists report.

It is known that Adaska was detained on May 12, 2023, a protocol was drawn up under Article 19.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (“production, distribution or storage of extremist materials”) and sentenced to an administrative arrest. The political prisoner was not released after his arrest.

Siarhei Adaska was accused of “insulting” Lukashenka (Part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code), “insulting” a representative of the authorities (Article 369 of the Criminal Code) and “abusing state symbols” (Article 370 of the Criminal Code) and, in the aggregate of punishments, he was finally given two years and six months of imprisonment in a penal colony under general regime conditions.

Other details of the case are not yet known.
