US Secretary of State Addresses Belarusians

Washington D.C. stands for a democratic, independent and sovereign Belarus.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken addressed Belarusians on the occasion of the country's official Independence Day celebrations. He stressed that the US has stood for a democratic, independent and sovereign Belarus for 30 years and remains unwavering in this support.
"On the occasion of the official Independence Day of Belarus, the people of the United States extend their warmest wishes to the people of Belarus," the statement reads.
Anthony Blinken noted that the courage and perseverance of Belarusians in their pursuit of a democratic future has inspired the world.
"Your courage, resilience and perseverance in pursuit of a democratic, sovereign and stable future for Belarus has inspired the world. From behind prison walls, in the cities of exile, and in your own homes in Belarus, you continue to stand up and advocate for a truly independent and democratic future for your country, where you can live free from oppression and determine the course of your own future," the statement said.
The US Secretary of State added that the United States also supports tireless efforts to protect the unique language, culture and identity of Belarus, and called for the release of political prisoners.
"The United States commends and supports your tireless efforts to protect the unique language, culture and identity of Belarus. We admire your tenacity in defending human rights and fundamental freedoms. We call for the unconditional release of all more than 1,500 Belarusian political prisoners and an end to the ongoing repression in Belarus," he added.
"The United States has been committed to a democratic, independent and sovereign Belarus for more than 30 years. That commitment remains steadfast."
