Nicola Beer called for the immediate release of Belarusian political prisoners.

Vice-President of the European Parliament, German politician Nicola Beer called for the immediate release of Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk, an activist of the European Belarus Сivil Сampaign, and the leader of the Belarusian opposition Mikalai Statkevich.

“The puppet Lukashenka regime brutally cracks down on the democratic political opposition and dissidents in Belarus. Political show trials bring verdicts with huge sentence terms to imprison them in inhuman conditions.

I was able to personally meet and talk with some relatives of political prisoners. They eloquently described a living hell in prisons, the lack of access to medical care and lawyers, and the agonizing uncertainty caused by restricted communication with their loved ones for weeks or months. These are inhuman conditions that can no longer be tolerated!

Relatives should finally be given access to their fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and partners in Belarusian prisons, as well as comprehensive medical care and legal assistance. The international community must immediately impose comprehensive sanctions against Lukashenka and his clique.

One thing is clear: we will continue to work together with their relatives to release all political prisoners in Belarus. We won't let you down!" Nicola Beer said.

Recall that Natallia Radzina, the Editor-in-Chief of Charter97.org, as well as Maryna Adamovich, the wife of Mikalai Statkevich, and Andrei Sharenda, the husband of Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk, held a number of bilateral meetings in Brussels with MEPs and EU diplomats.
