Danilov: There Are 14 Generals In Russia Who Support Prigozhin

The number of mid-level commanders ready to move to his side is even higher.

Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov said that many Russian military officers support the head of the PMC Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin.

"There are a lot of commanders who sympathise with Wagner and do not want to follow Putin," he told Reuters.

Danilov said he knows of 14 Russian generals who support Prigozhin.

Reuters writes that one of Wagner's squads headed north along the M-4 motorway, towards Moscow, during the riot. Their route took them past Boguchar, a garrison town where a Russian unit is stationed. Three local residents told reporters that there was no resistance from the Russian military there and that a large part of the town's residents, including servicemen, "sympathised" with Wagner.

One woman said about Prigozhin: "Who else is there to support? At least one decent person who is not afraid."

Another resident also said that Wagner enjoys widespread support in the town and that many of Wagner's fighters hail from Boguchar.

"They are all friends," she said.
