Seven Scandals With Russian Military In Belarus

  • 11.07.2023, 11:46

There are casualties on both sides.

Last week, at least five echelons with Russian military equipment and servicemen trained on the Belarusian training grounds left Belarus.

In this regard, the UDF recalls what scandals the Russian military has initiated in Belarus within 500 days of the full-scale war.

A truck with the letter "V" crushed a car

A month after the start of the full-scale war, photos of a traffic accident near Mazyr, where a Russian military truck with the letter "V" crushed a passenger car, hit the web.

The Belarusian traffic police did not report the incident either then or later. It is still unknown how many people were injured in the accident and whether there were any fatalities.

Looters sent things home from Mazyr

During the first phase of the full-scale war, the Russian military tried to take Kyiv, killing civilians and looting the region. After retreating to Belarus, they began sending home heavy parcels: refrigerators, washing machines, TV sets, and others. A corresponding video from the express delivery office in Mozyr appeared on the Internet.

Russian propaganda began to assure that the military had bought these things themselves. They said that things were cheaper in Belarusian shops than in Russia. But there was no proof.

Fatal accident caused by a convoy of Russian equipment near Rechytsa

Another terrible accident involving the Russian military took place in the night on April 1, 2022 in the Rechytsa district. A Volkswagen B4 car and a Mercedes-Benz 814 truck collided with an unrecognizable convoy of Russian equipment, including an APC.

The driver of the truck, 24-year-old Denis Radchenko, died at the scene. The official summary of the Belarusian police said that the car and the truck collided.

Two KGB officers blew themselves up on a land mine

In 2022, media reports said that two employees of the KGB department in the Homel region died after blowing themselves up on an anti-tank mine hastily left by the Russian military.

The KGB officers hit the mine while driving to the site of the former camp. A forester reported finding ammunition there. One of the victims was 35-year-old KGB Lieutenant Colonel Andrei Reutsky (shown on the photo).

Fatal accident caused by a military vehicle near Homel

Last year ended with another terrible accident involving military vehicles. A resident of Homel did not notice a ZIL "missile carrier" parked in the right lane of the road. Such equipment is used by the Belarusian Army, but it's more likely that the "missile carrier" was Russian: the police again did not mention military equipment in the summary.

The scandal of a drunken Russian military officer

On June 17 this year in Ivatsevichy, the police detained a group of several drunk Russians in a car with the Z symbol. One of them was Alexander Bykov, a serviceman.

The Russians were detained on charges of driving under the influence and disobedience to police officers. The Russian contract soldier was treated rather mildly. He was fined without trial and sent back to his comrades.

Mi-24 Helicopter crashes in the Baranavichy district

On June 22, a Russian Mi-24 helicopter crashed near the M1 highway. The Belarusian Defense Ministry claimed a "hard landing". It was claimed that the helicopter crew was injured, but there was no destruction or casualties on the ground.

The cost of such a helicopter is about $12,500,000.
