The Armed Forces of Ukraine have achieved success in the offensive southeast of Vuhledar.

During counterattacks in the west of the Donetsk region on June 2, Ukrainian troops achieved territorial gains. In particular, they were able to recapture the village of Volodymyrivka, 11 km southeast of Vuhledar.

This was reported by analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), citing a Russian source.

They also noted the following: the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian troops had carried out strikes on Ukrainian positions near Pavlivka and Vodiane, however, according to ISW, Russian forces did not carry out any confirmed or suspected ground attacks in the western part of the Donetsk region.

In addition, the report emphasized that the Russian troops did not carry out any confirmed ground attacks near Avdiivka, but preferred the Maryinka direction. Geolocation footage shows that as of June 1, Russian forces were gradually advancing in northwestern Maryinka.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian troops repelled eight Russian ground attacks near Maryinka. At the same time, Head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov said on June 1 that Akhmat special forces arrived in Maryinka on May 30, and that Russian troops captured 70% of the city. On June 2, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Akhmat were storming Maryinka.

At the same time, as analysts noted, new discussions on “achievements” at the front broke out in the information space of Russia. The emphasis shifted from sharing responsibility for the “capture” of Bakhmut to minor tactical successes in the Maryinka area. One of the Russian bloggers reported on disputes between different formations over who gained more control over the city, although it has not yet been completely occupied.
