Experts serve different opinions on who it is about.
On May 9, the 67th Eurovision Song Contest kicked off in Liverpool. In 2023, it was to be held in Ukraine, as the Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra became the winner of the last contest. However, the European Broadcasting Union has handed over the right to host the contest to Great Britain, whose representative in 2022 took second position in the competition.
The first semi-final featured 15 competitors. Ten of them were voted on to advance. They are from Croatia, Moldova, Switzerland, Finland, the Czech Republic, Israel, Portugal, Sweden, Serbia and Norway. Malta, Latvia, Ireland, Azerbaijan and the Netherlands did not reach the final.
The first contestant to make it to the finals and draw the greatest public interest was the rock band Let 3 from Croatia, meduza.io reports.
The musicians, wearing colourful mackintoshes and caps, performed the song "Mama ŠČ! The verse repeats the following lines: "Mama bought a tractor, mama fell in love with a retard", and the chorus says "That little psychopath. Sneaky little psychopath. Crocodile psychopath. Mama, I'm going to war."
A man appears on stage with fake nuclear warheads in the finale of the song.
Here's a piece of Let 3's performance in the semi-finals of Eurovision 2023:
And here is their performance in the final of the national competition in February 2023:
The band Let 3 were founded back in 1987 in Yugoslavia and is known for its provocative lyrics and obscene live performances.
Eurovision viewers debated to whom Let 3's song could be addressed. Some thought it was a parody on Aliaksandr Lukashenka, as the lead frontman performed with a stick-on moustache.
The participants themselves said the song was anti-war and referred to all wars in the world, but now they are singing about Vladimir Putin.
The second semi-final of Eurovision-2023 will be held on May 11. It involves Denmark, Armenia, Romania, Estonia, Belgium, Cyprus, Iceland, Greece, Poland, Slovenia, Georgia, San Marino, Austria, Albania, Lithuania and Australia.
The final will be held on 13 May. In addition to the winners of the semi-finals, it will feature representatives of the so-called "Big Five" (the founding countries and main sponsors of the competition: Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy) and last year's winner, Ukraine.
Contestants from Russia and Belarus were not allowed to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest because of the war.
