Beef Shortage In Belarusian Stores

The whole country lacks meat home production.

Natallia Shablinskaia, the CEO of the Association of Retail Chains said that there is a problem with beef in Belarus. The Association’s requests for this type of meat are not always satisfied, and requests for poultry are satisfied for about 90%.

At the same time, 98-99% of the assortment of meat and meat products in Belarusian stores are local products, the rest are Russian products.

Shablinskaia called the situation of Belarusian trade and producers difficult because of the sanctions. In addition, severe price restrictions were imposed in 2022. They are obliged to follow the regulations. As a result, meat production profitability decreased and there are fewer opportunities to carry out actions.

“We are losing sales,” she said.

Natallia Shablinskaia also said that Belarusian customers are increasingly choosing cuts of cooked meat or sausage.
