She made money from the debts of ordinary Russians.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's ex-wife Lyudmila Ochertnaya (surnamed after her second husband) has enriched herself on the war against Ukraine. The micro-credit organization she owns increased its profits by 140 million rubles ($1.7 million) in a year of all-out war.

Russian publication Mozhem Ob'yasnit writes that Putin's ex-wife has profited from the debts of ordinary people amid the fact that Russians' borrowing during the war year has reached record-high.

CarMoney, a firm affiliated with Lyudmila Ocheretyana that provides loans secured by cars, earned a record 391.3 million rubles ($4.7 million) in 2022. The firm's net profit was up 66% compared to peacetime, reports show.

Putina-Ocherenaya personally received RUB58 million ($700,000) from CarMoney in 2022, financial statements show. The payments were made through the organisation's owner, Carmoney CY LTD, a Cyprus-based offshore. It is controlled by Meridian, 99% is owned by Putin's ex-wife.

Two days before the new year, Ocheretnaya's offshore was no longer the owner of CarMoney. The company left for Russian jurisdiction and Smarttehgroup LLC became its new owner. In this way, the firm escaped economic sanctions from the European Union, as Ocheretnaya herself is under the restrictions of certain countries.
