Belarusian Border Guards Detain Polish Trucks, Demand Up To 260 K Euros As ‘Deposit’

This refers to dozens of trucks.
Over the past week, 70 Polish trucks have been detained on the Belarusian side. Border guards demand 8,500 euros from drivers for each entry into Belarus over the past six months, reports the Belarus of Brain Telegram channel.
At the same time, drivers can return to Poland, while trucks remain on Belarusian territory until the amount is paid. The record fee demanded for one car was 260,000 euros. An additional “fine” of 100 thousand euros is also possible.
The border guards call this amount a refundable “deposit” against which future violations in the documents will go.
“I got into this situation. There was a mistake in the documents, I lost 60,000 euros. Six months passed before I took the car, as a result, they wanted to recover 180 thousand from me. If Belarusians now decide to use this mechanism on a massive scale, this could mean a series of bankruptcies in the transport industry in the coming months. I know companies that already have several cars in Belarus. No one can withstand such a blow,” one of the carriers told the Polish media.
