The story of courageous Belarusians has delighted the audience and critics.
The feature film "Live" ("Na żywo") about Belsat journalists Katsia Andreyeva and Dasha Chultsova has been recognized the best at the Polish-Czech film competition of ZOOM-ZBLIŻENIA, reports Belsat.
On March 12, the director of the short feature film Mara Tamkovitch announced on her Facebook that she had won at the 26th ZOOM-ZBLIŻIENIA International Film Festival in Zielona Góra. "Live" was awarded the first prize for best feature film.
"A lot of joy! Thank you very much to the festival, judges, actors, crew and producers of Wajda School & Studio. A special mention goes to Katsiaryna Andreyeva and Darja Chultsova, the journalists whose story inspired the film. I hope that every award like this adds at least some support, especially for Katsia, who is serving another long sentence," Mara wrote.
One of the heroines of the film, Dasha Chultsova, learned the news about the award from her colleagues in the editorial office: "Personally, I have watched "Live" twice. Once on the big screen. It wasn't easy for me, especially seeing the actual footage, the ones I shot. Those memories are still very close and painful for me. Mara is a great director and a very cool person. I'm sure if Katsia had watched it, she would have said the same thing."
We remind that the short fiction film tells the story of detaining the Belsat journalists during their stream from the so-called "Square of Changes" in 2020.
Previously Mara Tamkovich's film won a special award at the 47th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. The film was also presented at the Chicago Film Festival. The Warsaw premiere of the film took place during the Belarusian Independent Film Festival of Bulbamovie 2022 on November 20, 2022. You can watch the trailer of the film below.
For now, those who wish to watch the film can do so only at festivals, as the film is not available in the public domain. Meanwhile, Mara Tamkovich is going to make a feature film about Katsia Andreyeva. The film will be titled "8 Years And 3 Months" - the term of imprisonment the journalist was given by the Lukashenka regime.
