The An-24 missed the runway.

A Polar Airlines An-24 passenger plane with dozens of passengers on board missed the runway and landed on the frozen Kolyma River in Yakutia, Russia.

This is reported by the local edition of "Yakutsk Vecherniy".

The aircraft was performing a flight on the route "Yakutsk - Zyryanka - Srednekolymsk". There were 34 people on board - 30 passengers and 4 crew members. They were evacuated after the incident.

The reason why the An-24 landed not at the planned location is called a mistake of the pilots. They did not see the runway and landed on the reservoir.

Due to the severe cold, the river was bounded by ice, which withstood the weight of the aircraft. It is noted that there are no casualties as a result of the incident.

The Yakutsk transport prosecutor's office has organised an inspection into the incident, which occurred in the early morning on December 28.

"According to preliminary information, the cause of the aviation accident is the crew's error in piloting the aircraft," stated the publication.
