Belarusian Military May Be Sent To Vietnam

The Ministry of Defence has started "studying the issue".

Belarus is "interested in exploring the issue" of training its representatives at the training centre of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPO) of Vietnam, the press service of the Ministry of Defence said on December 20.

According to the ministry, the algorithm of "building cooperation in the field of peacekeeping activities" was discussed at a meeting between the head of the Department of International Military Cooperation - Assistant Minister of Defence Valeryj Revenka and the head of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations of the Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam, Pham Manh Thang.

It is said that the parties are "unanimous in the opinion" that "peace and security activities play an important role in the current realities of the international situation."

On December 8, 2023, the governments of Belarus and Vietnam signed an agreement on mutual visa abolition. Diplomatic relations between the countries were established on January 24, 1992.

The only military unit in Belarus, officially called peacekeeping, is a peacekeeping company of the 103rd Vitsebsk Independent Airborne Brigade. It is part of the peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation.
