In October, the dollar exchange rate set and updated a historical record. Against this background, the population behaved atypically — for the first time in the last 9 months, they were more active in buying currency than in lending it out. The National Bank told how Belarusians behaved on the foreign exchange market in October.

In October, the population purchased $917.2 million in foreign currency and sold $16.1 million less. The last time Belarusians were more active in buying foreign currency than selling it was in January of this year.

Belarusian businesses (resident companies) were more active in selling foreign currency than buying in October. Thus, companies purchased $2 billion 48.7 million last month and sold $37.2 million more. In September, the business bought $255.9 million more currency than it sold.
