‘She Had To Work A Lot To Support Her Children’

Neighbors spoke about the tragedy in the Liakhavichy district.

In the village of Svajatsichy, Liakhavichy district, a house burned down this morning. The mother was at work, and the children were staying at home alone.

While extinguishing the fire, rescuers found the bodies of two children: a 4-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, the Investigative Committee reports.

The girl was in the second grade, the boy went to kindergarten. Two more older children live in Liakhavichy and study at a local college, writes Nash Kraj.

— She’s a good woman, she doesn’t drink, she’s hardworking. A few years ago she parted with her husband, and was left alone with four children. She had to work hard and earn money to support them. That morning, when the house caught fire, she was at work, on the farm. A terrible tragedy, a terrible set of circumstances, but the mother is not to blame for what happened. She looked after them very well, cared for them, and raised them,” fellow villagers told the publication.

An investigative team is working at the scene of the incident.
