Details.

The Israeli military have taken control of the command post of one of the main Hamas battalions, Zeitoun, and its central headquarters, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) Telegram channel reported.

"Soldiers of the 188th Brigade took operational control of several key sites of the Zeitoun battalion, including the command centre of the brigade's commander in Gaza City and the battalion's central headquarters," the report said. The facility was eventually destroyed.

The army also reported conducting an airstrike in the Zeitoun neighbourhood in southern Gaza and destroying terrorists. In addition, Bislamah Brigade fighters destroyed Hamas military facilities in the area, including those with heavy and long-range rockets.

Israel has been conducting the ground operation in the Gaza Strip since October 27. On November 6, the Israeli army announced the encircling of Gaza City and the de facto division of the Strip into northern and southern parts, followed two days later by control of the northern part of the city. On November 16, the IDF announced the capture of western Gaza and the transition to the next phase of the operation. Two days later, Israeli forces began a new phase of the operation and launched an offensive from the south, in the Zeitoun area, and from the north, in the Jabaliya area. It is in Jabaliya that the command centre of Hamas' North Gaza Brigade and "one of the most significant terrorist strongholds" is located, the IDF pointed out.
