What Happens After Aziaryshcha Explosion: Belarusian Railways Disclose Confidential Information

  • 7.10.2023, 14:24

There are important military installations near the station.

As the website Charter97.org reported, on the night of October 6, the sound of an explosion was heard in Kalodzishchy and Minsk Uruchcha.

Local residents reported that investigators are interrogating people about sabotage at the Aziaryshcha railway station.

The Belarusian Railway Workers Community, based on confidential information from the Belarusian Railways, reported details of what happened in Aziaryshcha. The information about the explosion at Aziaryshcha station was confirmed by various sources.

The canvas was damaged near important military installations

As a result of the explosion, a section of the railway track and switch connecting the station tracks with the loading and unloading tracks at the location of the cargo ramps were damaged.

These engineering structures at the specified station are periodically used to perform loading and unloading operations with military equipment.

Aziaryshcha is the main station where military equipment is loaded in the Minsk region. The 120th and 127th Signal Brigades, as well as the 56th Signal Regiment are located near the station.

From Aziaryshcha station in the direction of Vorsha station there are Kalodzishchy and Haradzishcha stations. Adjacent to the Haradzishcha station is a branch of the railway line to military unit #42776. The Kalodzishchy station is connected by a separate path to the Shabany station, which creates a route bypassing Minsk when following the Vorsha - Brest route (or in the opposite direction). This bypass is actively used to increase secrecy during military transportation of Russian equipment, ammunition and troops in the direction of Baranavichy and Luninets.

The explosion was powerful

According to updated information, it became known that the explosion at the Aziaryshcha station occurred between tracks 4 and 6 (closer to the high loading platforms). The power of the explosion is assessed as quite high. However, it is noted that no serious damage to the infrastructure (tracks and other structures and devices) occurred.

The consequences of the explosion did not lead to train delays or interruptions in traffic, since main tracks 1 and 2 were not damaged. There is no need for restoration or significant repair work.

Panic in the Belarusian Railways and law enforcement agencies

Throughout the day, representatives of law enforcement agencies were constantly in the building of the Belarusian Railways Directorate and the Transportation Control Center (TCC). Surveys were conducted among transportation service workers, dispatch personnel, and other workers associated with train traffic.

Currently, measures are being implemented aimed at protecting the railway infrastructure, provided for by the relevant order on ensuring the protection of railway tracks, stations and artificial structures, including:

the presence of employees of the “power” structures at the railway hauls, electrical centralization posts (EC), railway crossings, stations and stopping points, in “crooked” sections of the track and other critical objects;

the use of quadcopters to monitor critical infrastructure at night;

equipment along railway tracks in critical areas with so-called “secrets” for the purpose of conducting “hidden” protection of the infrastructure;

strengthening security at night for traction substations, bridges and overpasses, centralization posts and other critical infrastructure facilities.

The planned duration of this strengthening of the protection of railway infrastructure and the above measures is currently unknown.

No movement of military trains in the specified area was recorded on October 5-6, 2023.
