Details.
The Latvian National Armed Forces (NBS) have increased their presence on the eastern border as part of their assistance to the border guard. The commander of the NBS, Leonid Kalnins, told TV3.
“You're sure to see a lot more of us in the region in the near future. We have increased our military presence in this region, and I think that will come with results,” he said.
The commander did not go into details, noting only increasing the number of military personnel on the border, as well as expanding the range of their tasks. He also indicated changes in the supply system.
Recall that Latvia has closed two checkpoints on the border with Russia in recent weeks. The use of airspace was limited in the Belarusian border area. Since the end of summer, Latvia has been experiencing an intense flow of migrants. The number of attempts to illegally cross its border is the highest among countries bordering Belarus.
