This was seen as “protesting”.
A local resident from the Belarusian city of Rahachou was brought to court for installing a silver-red reflector on his bicycle. The police saw a White-Red-White flag in his reflector, and the court fined the man for “illegal protesting,” writes Homel Viasna.
A few years ago, Rahachou resident Piotr Rusak put a reflector in the form of a stripe of silver and red colors on his bicycle.
The local police department considered that the reflector depicted a White-Red-White flag, and the owner of the bicycle was thereby “staged an unauthorized protest against” and “violated the law on mass events”. Police drew up an administrative offence record against the man and took the matter to court.t.
On October 2, Judge Volha Pakrouskaia issued an order under Article 24.23 of the Administrative Code (“Violation of the procedure for organizing and holding mass events”) and fined Piotr Rusak 555 Belarusian rubles.
