Wife Of Fugitive Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev Dies In Minsk

Nazgul Tolomusheva, the wife of the former President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev, died of сardiac distress in Belarus, according to Vesti.kg.

After the 2010 revolution, Kurmanbek Bakiyev fled Kyrgyzstan and settled in Belarus. He was living with Nazgul Tolomusheva in Minsk. The media called her Bakiyev's unofficial wife. It is not known for certain whether Bakiyev and Tolomushova registered marriage. In 2011, in an interview with the Ayat-Press newspaper, she admitted that she had been living with Bakiyev since 1995.

In 2016-2017, Nazgul had been working as the Manager of the Minsk Hotel, owned by Lukashenka's administration, writes Akipress.kg.

The body of the deceased woman will be delivered to Kyrgyzstan for a funeral ceremony. According to preliminary data, the funeral is planned in her birthplace: the Toguz-Torouz district of the Jalal-Abad region.

The former Kyrgyz president Kurmanbek Bakiyev is still living in Belarus, although he is on the international wanted list in a number of criminal cases. Official Minsk refused all Bishkek's requests for his extradition.

On February 12, 2013, he was found guilty in his homeland and sentenced in absentia to 24 years in prison for abuse of authority. On April 5, 2014, Kurmanbek Bakiyev was sentenced in absentia to 25 years in prison for organizing an assassination attempt on the life of British businessman Sean Daly. In July 2021, Bakiyev was charged with corruption in the development of the Kumtor gold mine.

Bakiyev has his own business in Belarus. He is associated with the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation (BNBC).
