The appeal is sent to 44 athletes.

On September 28th Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for Canadian ice hockey players, playing for Russian and Belarusian clubs of the Continental Hockey League (CHL), to leave the territory of these countries.

This was stated in a letter from Adrian Blanchard, a spokesman for Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister, published by The Canadian Press in a buried newsfeed and quoted by The Canadian Press в зарытой ленте и процитированным TSN.

"President [Russia's Vladimir] Putin's war in Ukraine is a war against freedom, democracy and the rights of Ukrainians and all people to determine their future. We, Canadians, cherish these values. Athletes who choose to play and cooperate with Russia and Belarus must explain their decisions to the public," the letter says.

As journalists note, 44 Canadian players play for clubs in Russia and Belarus, and four more play in Kazakhstan.

Canada recommended its citizens to avoid trips to Russia and Belarus back in March.
