Extortion is a painful topic for Belarusian parents.

The Basta! Telegram channel shared the subscribers’ stories:

“Babruisk, secondary school number 22, we have 2 children studying there. We, as large families, were told to hand over 40 rubles. The rest are supposed to pay 40 rubles per child.”

“Minsk. One of the gymnasiums. The child is in 8th grade. At the first meeting, they asked me to donate money to the parent committee for: napkins, toilet paper, aprons (in order to keep duty in the dining room), disposable gloves, hats, cups. Then they will ask you to donate money for water. The state does not allocate money for toilet paper for the school? Or does someone take it home all the time?”

“As for fees in schools and kindergartens. Write that all parents have already paid for everything.

Every month we pay taxes — what we have earned, we give to the local authorities. Each parent has already paid for everything and “participated in charity”, and participates in it monthly. Let them take 36% of their salary — this is the amount that they have already chipped in (from the average salary it will be about 800 Belarusian rubles). The calculation is rounded, for example.”
