All because of the announcement of a new date for a possible visit by Nancy Pelosi.

China has thrown new threats at the United States over the announcement of a new date for a possible visit of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.

Reuters, reports that a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman says at a briefing that the military "will not stand still" if Pelosi visits Taiwan.

He explained that a visit to Taiwan "would lead to egregious political consequences" because of Pelosi's status as "the No. 3 official in the U.S. government."

It is not yet known whether Pelosi will visit Taiwan. Taiwanese state media reporter Tingting Liu quoted her sources as giving the date of her visit to the capital Taipei on August 2.

"According to my sources, Nancy Pelosi will arrive in Taipei tomorrow night," she wrote on her Twitter.

On July 27, it is reported that China and the U.S. are ramping up their military force around the Taiwan Strait as tensions rise over a possible visit to the island by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The Financial Times earlier reported, citing a number of U.S. officials, that U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi intended to visit Taiwan after August 1.

If Pelosi were to visit Taiwan, it would be the first trip by a U.S. representative at that level to the island since 1997.
