Pentagon: Russian Troops in Ukraine Have Poor Command and Low Morale

  • 3.05.2022, 9:12

The occupiers are losing control over the occupied territories.

The command of Russian forces in eastern Ukraine, where major combat operations are now taking place, is unsatisfactory. In addition, the military personnel do not receive adequate logistical support and have extremely low morale.

This is how a senior Pentagon official characterized the situation during a telephone briefing, Ukrinform reports.

"We observe minimal, if I may say so, progress by the Russians in the Donbas. They fail with goals they had planned," the U.S. defence official noted.

In particular, he said, the Russians have made little progress from the towns of Izyum and Popasna. Although he continues, these achievements can be called tentative, as the Russian forces first achieve control of the territories and then lose it.

The Pentagon spokesman also notes that Russian forces are trying to avoid unnecessary risks and losses in both aerial combat and ground warfare.

"However, the Ukrainians have skillfully done their job in the last 24-48 hours, pushing the Russians further back. And they managed to push the Russians back about 40 kilometres east of Kharkiv," the official said.

He also says the Pentagon believes the Russians have fired an estimated 2,125 rockets at Ukraine since the invasion.
