The regime is running into ILO sanctions.
The Minsk Municipal Court announced sentences to the leaders of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions, human rights activists report.
The head of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions Aliaksandr Yarashuk, his deputy Siarhei Antusevich and accountant Iryna But-Husaim were found guilty of participating in protests, Yarashuk was also found guilty of calling for strikes. They all pleaded not guilty.
Leader of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions Aliaksandr Yarashuk was sentenced to 4 years in prison, his deputy Siarhei Antusevich — to 2 years, accountant Iryna But-Husaim — one and a half years.
Important to note, the Conference of the International Labor Organization may consider sanctions against Belarus in June 2023. The Lukashenka regime is clearly not going to comply with the requirements of the ILO, and continues to violate the rights of independent trade unions.
