Political Prisoner Sentenced For 'Attacking' Propagandist Azaronak At March

On December 21, the Zavadski district court of Minsk passed a verdict in the criminal case against 25-year-old political prisoner Artsiom Zabeliankou, reported human rights activists.

He was charged under Part 1 of Article 342 ("active participation in actions that grossly violate public order") and Article 198 of the Criminal Code ("obstruction of the legitimate professional activities of a journalist") for his participation in the "March of Pride" on October 11, 2020 and the demand to stop filming made to propagandist Ryhor Azaronak and cameraman Andrei Ivanenka. Judge Alena Kaptsevich sentenced the guy to two years in a general regime colony.

According to the prosecution, Artsiom Zabeliankou participated in the March on October 11, 2020, where he demanded from one of the employees of the Lukashenka channel to stop filming. The actions of the guy were qualified under part 1 of article 342 and article 198 of the Criminal Code. Artsiom was detained on July 14, 2022 and taken to pre-trial detention center No. 1.

His trial began in the court of Zavadski district of Minsk on December 20. Two "victims", Ryhor Azaronak and Andrei Ivanenka, appeared on the case. The former didn't show up at the trial.

The prosecutor asked for two years of general regime imprisonment for Zabeliankou. On the next day, Judge Alena Kaptsevich sentenced him to the punishment requested by the prosecution.
