Its territory is named as temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation.
At its session on October 18, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed a resolution 8132 recognizing the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria as temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation, the Gordon newspaper wrote.
This was reported on Telegram by Golos MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
In addition, the Rada condemned Russia of committing genocide against the Chechen people.
The corresponding draft resolution was supported by 287 people's deputies.
"The adoption of this resolution will emphasize Ukraine's support for the Chechen people's desire for independence. In addition, the condemnation of international crimes committed by Moscow against the Chechen people, including genocide, will contribute to the restoration of historical justice," the explanatory note to the document says.
The text of Rada's statement recognizing Ichkeria as temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation will be sent to the UN, parliaments and governments of its member states, the EU, and the Council of Europe.
"[Russian President Vladimir] Putin has been trying to enslave the Chechen people for a very long time. He assigned his Gauleiter (Ramzan Kadyrov) to head the region and now forces the Chechens to fight against Ukrainians. "This is typical Russian imperialist policy towards other nations," Euro Solidarity MP Oleksiy Honcharenko wrote on Telegram. - Russia should be decolonized and Ichkeria should be free."
Honcharenko adds that he earlier submitted a resolution to the Rada recognizing Ichkeria's independence.
"One should take this step and finally put an end to Russia's imperialist policy," the MP stressed.
