The Famous Church Is Burning in Budslau

(Updated) The miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Budslau was taken to a safe place.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is burning in Budslau. This is a national sanctuary, where thousands of pilgrims from all over Belarus come every year, Belsat reported.
“Right now the roof of the Budslau church is on fire. There is a possibility of collapse," readers of Charter97.org confirmed the information.
The website catholic.by reported that a fire broke out on the roof of the National Sanctuary of the Mother of God of Budslau on the morning of May 11. Firefighters arrived at the scene. Believers are called to prayer.
According to the rector of the parish in Budslau, priest Dzmitry Dubovik, the Holy Sacrament and the icon of the Mother of God of Budslau were taken to a safe place immediately after the appearance of the smoke.
With the help of volunteers, everything that was possible was also taken out of the church: liturgical accessories, icons, books, and other portable things.
Chairman of the Conference of Catholic Bishops in Belarus, Bishop of Vitsebsk Aleh Butkevich calls on believers to pray through the intercession of the holy martyr Florian for the salvation of the Budslau shrine, which is not only the center of spiritual life but also a unique monument of architecture and art.
Additional fire brigades were dispatched from Hoza (Astravets district) to Budslau, who have at their disposal long fire escapes to extinguish the roof of tall buildings.
The readers of Nasha Niva reported that the church in Budslau was burning with an open flame, and part of the roof had already collapsed.
The firefighters reported by radio that it was impossible to operate from inside the church. They work on stairs. The fire was attended by teams from all neighboring districts of the Minsk and Vistebsk regions.
People believe that the roof is unlikely to be saved. The Belarusian people have a lot of work to do to restore it.
Radio Svaboda reported that the roof of the church had collapsed.
