Marcy Kaptur: Biden Fully Supports Accession Of Belarus To EU

The Congresswoman said that the U.S. President would support the European integration of Belarus.

U.S. Congresswoman from the Democratic Party Marcy Kaptur said that U.S. President Joe Biden would encourage the integration of Ukraine and Belarus into Europe.

She said this during a video conference, organized by the Central and East European Coalition.

According to her, Biden doesn't need to know more about what should be done in Central Europe to ensure the U.S. response to the events in Belarus.

Reacting to the situation in Belarus, Marcy Kaptur stated that she is concerned about how dictator Alexander Lukashenka behaves and hopes that American sanctions against the Belarusians and Russians, involved in human rights violations in Belarus, will be enlarged.

"Instead of responding to calls for more freedom, Lukashenka has turned to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to get loan guarantees from him and help from their propagandists and secret services," - Kaptur said.

She added that the U.S. should expand sanctions against those involved in criminal activities in Belarus, in particular, against employees of intelligence agencies and the Interior Ministry, as well as Russians involved in the events in the neighboring country.

Joe Biden promised to hold Russia accountable for its aggression against Ukraine. Also, even before his presidency, he called for expanding sanctions against the Lukashenka regime.
