Belorusneft Refuses to Export Oil to Germany Because of Sanctions

  • 13.12.2021, 8:03

The regime will lose hundreds of millions of dollars.

Belorusneft has refused to fulfil a contract to supply oil to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline in 2022, sources told Reuters.

According to the agency, in November, Belorusneft sold part of its export supplies - about 40,000 tonnes per month to Royal Dutch Shell at a tender. The Belarusian company was supposed to start supplies in early 2022 but withdrew from the agreement in early December amid the imposition of sanctions.

The Belarusian company plans to divert oil volumes to the country's refineries, says Reuters. This may lead to a reduction in oil supplies to Belarus from Russia. It is expected that Schell may compensate for the falling volumes of Belarusian oil with crude oil from its production in Russia.

Belarus' annual supplies to Germany were 1.6-1.8 million tonnes. In 2020, Belorusneft exported 1.2 million tons for $343.2 million.

It should be recalled that on 2 December, the EU, the UK, the US and Canada imposed new sanctions against Belarus, and Belorusneft was also subject to the restrictions.
