Belarusian Regime Has Chosen Strange Tactics: Lithuanian Border Guards Are Surprised

Migrants began to be pushed into Lithuania in the area of the Deveniškės loop.

The Belarusian regime has chosen a new direction for pushing migrants into the territory of Lithuania. For several days, this has been happening in the area of the Deveniškės loop, delfi.lt reports with reference to the LNK channel.

A barbed-wire barrier has already been installed on this territory, and a fence is being installed. The increased activity is observed here.

"Yesterday, 71 illegal immigrants were not allowed into Lithuania, they all tried to get to Lithuania on this site," Rustam Lyubaev, head of the SOGG, said on Thursday.

The Vice Minister of Internal Affairs of Lithuania Kestutis Lančinskas stressed that activity in the Deveniškės loop has been observed for several days.

“The Belarusian security forces are trying to push illegal migrants into the territory of Lithuania,” he said.

It is on this site that the installation of video cameras is being completed; they are installed every several tens of meters. Cameras automatically inform about illegal border crossing attempts.

"This is a completely new system. It should be commissioned by the end of the year. These systems will monitor 112 km," Lyubaev said.

It was the video cameras that filmed the moment when the migrants were pushed by the Belarusian border guards. At first, the border guards are not visible in the video, migrants are walking, but then they stop, do not want to go further, border guards with shields appear, and do not let migrants back to Belarus.

The length of the border between Lithuania and Belarus is almost 700 km. Cameras are installed on almost half of the border. Soon there will be more.

"The system itself recognizes whether a person or an animal is at the border. Then it reports an alarm," Lyubaev said.

The tactics of the Belarusians seem strange to the Lithuanian border guards. Indeed, even before the crisis, there was an enhanced border guard in Deveniškės. And now there are cameras, barbed wire, setting up a fence.

"It is not difficult to ensure control in this area. The narrowing of the loop is well guarded. Illegals would be detained at the very border or this narrowing," Lyubaev said.

A plane with migrants took off from Minsk on Thursday and decided to return home. But neither Lithuanian nor Polish border guards have yet noted a decrease in the number of illegal immigrants at the border.

“We have noticed an increase in the number of separate groups in some areas. The Polish colleagues inform that, even though some of the migrants went deep into Belarus, there are many of them left at the border and near the checkpoint,” Lyubaev said.

Experts assess the situation on the border with Belarus as bad but stable.
