The situation with COVID-19 in Belarus is a matter of concern.

The situation with the spread of the coronavirus in the eastern part of the region is of special concern. Regional Director for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO) Hans Kluge said this during a briefing, writes tut.by.

- The situation in the eastern part of the region remains a concern. In Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Ukraine, the number of new cases has increased over the past week, the WHO representative noted.

Kluge said that as part of the fight against infection, 43 countries in the region imposed partial or complete restrictions on movement. Conducting mass events in the current situation may provoke a new outbreak of the disease.

- Ahead we have a very important day - Victory Day, May 9. And I want to note those governments that made a brave decision to postpone or reschedule parades, put people's health in first place. We at the regional office are very respectful of this date. But now is the time to find alternative solutions for the celebration, so as not to endanger human lives, said Kluge.

The day before, the WHO Regional Office on Twitter thanked those who could refuse from public celebrations.
