Maryja Tarasenka: I Applied For 25 Peaceful Protest Actions, They Already Denied 11 Of Them

The fighter with the parasite decree intends to bring absurd prohibitions for the consideration of the Supreme Court.

On May 27, the famous fighter with the parasite decree # 3 Maryja Tarasenka received bans on holding peaceful protest actions in four districts of the Homel region at once. The reason for the refusals is standard - no traffic routes are indicated, although specific streets are indicated in the applications, along which groups of people were supposed to march, reports gomelspring.org.

Maryja Tarasenka calls the situation a Homel bacchanalia and lodges complaints with the courts.

“I applied for 25 peaceful protests in the region and 11 of them have already been banned. I plan to bring this absurd to the Supreme Court. Our constitutional rights relating to peaceful assemblies and expression of opinions are effectively tabooed,” the activist said.

Human rights activist Leanid Sudalenka says that the case “25 bans for Maryja Tarasenka” must pass the test of all courts. So that they would not be able to say later, all domestic remedies have not been exhausted.

“Instead of promoting this brave woman’s enjoyment of her rights, the officials everywhere in the region are looking for unnecessary restrictions. Peaceful assemblies are necessary to create a tolerant society in which groups with different convictions, norms of behavior or principles coexist peacefully,” the lawyer said.

He also added that the case of “25 bans for Maryja Tarasenka” is a good revision of the recent changes to the legislation on public events. Officials report serious liberalization, and practice reports the opposite.
