The chairperson of the Russian State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs and Eurasian Integration and Ties with Compatriots made a statement.

The new Russian ambassador to Belarus, Dmitry Mezentsev, should work to deepen integration within the framework of the “union state”. The chairperson of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Ties with Compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov announced this, TASS reports.

According to him, the new ambassador faces serious tasks that Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and his colleague Lukashenka discussed during a bilateral meeting in Sochi in February.

Kalashnikov added that he did not question choosing Mezentsev as the Russian ambassador,

because the latter "understands the value of relations between Russia and Belarus."
