Ales Bialiatski: Stand For Your Rights Every Day

Chairman of the human rights center “Viasna” has made a New Year’s address.

“Dear Belarusians, dear countrymen!

The year 2016 has passed away. It has been a very complicated year for us and our families.

Apparently, the economic situation hasn’t become any better. We are entering the new year with no great illusions it will improve. However, we should not lose our spirits in a situation like this, we must defend our economic rights, fight for them, as the Belarusian authorities, unfortunately, cannot cope with this situation. So they are trying to shift the responsibility for the current economic conditions in the country off to the shoulders of ordinary citizens.

Never agree for the compulsory subscription for printed media, do not let them send your children to do agricultural works, do not participate in some free collective subbotniks, stand for your rights every day.

You should demand that the authorities give you an opportunity to live peacefully, to breathe free and to feel safe.

In 21017, I think we will feel a little better if we are with our close people, family members. If we defend our rights together.

Long Live Belarus! Long Live Year 2017! Only together we will achieve better future for ourselves and our children!” – Ales Bialiatski wished Belarusians.
