EU: EU will treat Belarus in the way Belarusian authorities treat opposition

Polish foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg met with representatives of the Belarusian opposition today.
Belarus was represented by Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu, Anatol Lyabedzka, Ryhor kastusyou, Yury Hubarevich, Syarhei Kalyakin and relatives of political prisoners – Andrei Sannikov’s sister Iryna Bahdanava and Mikalai Statkevich’s wife Maryna Adamovich.
Minister Sikorski said at a press conference that “The EU will treat Belarus in the way the Belarusian authorities treat the opposition”.
Sikorski confirmed that official Minsk would be represented at the Summit by Belarusian ambassador to Poland Victor Gaisenok, who “can take part in all events of the summit”.
Belarusian opposition members have a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel today at 10:00 pm (Minsk time).
