Supreme Court to deliver judgement on “Nasha Viasna” claim on August 12

The prosecutor asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the claim of the organization founders on August 11.

As BelaPAN learnt from one of the founders, human rights activist Valyantsin Stefanovich, the Supreme Court of Belarus will deliver its judgement on the claim of the founders of the public human rights organization on refusal to register on August 12.

On August 11, oral hearing was held in the Supreme Court and prosecutor Kastakova made a speech. She asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the claim of the organization founders.

“She thinks the claim should be dismissed because four people allegedly gave wrong information about their residence and work,” Stefanovich says. “In particular, a person wrote that he works as a teacher in a “section” instead of a “group”. One of the founders wrote an abbreviation of the education establishment she works for, but the Ministry of Justice says the full name should be pointed out. Such details can be a reason for dismissal of the claim.”

According to Stefanovich, the prosecutor said the pretences of the Ministry of Justice to the organization name, its statute, and the fact “Nasha Viasna” founders were brought to administrative responsibility, can’t be a ground of refusal to register.

In his view, “the decision on the claim is obvious.”

“They will most likely refuse to register us after the speech of the prosecutor,” Stefanovich supposed.

The Ministry of Justice has already denied registration to the organization three times.
